Apparently, someone over at New Line took notice of the fact that Lionsgate has been wildly successful over the last couple of years with a little slasher series known as Saw. Remembering that they have one of the properties that distinguishes the genre, the studio is moving ahead with yet another Friday the 13th film. This time, apparently, they'll be exploring the origins of the hockey mask-wearing Jason Voorhees.

Perhaps they have forgotten the results of the last solo outing for Mr. Voorhees. Although Jason performed more than admirably when paired up with Freddy Krueger in Freddy Vs. Jason ($36.4 million opening weekend, $82 million final box office), Jason X was more on the pathetic side. That film, which put Jason in outer space for some reason, earned a mere $6.6 million in its first weekend. Even worse, it managed only $12.6 million total, though DVD sales and rentals probably helped to some degree.

No matter, though. Obviously, people need to know how Jason became the crazed, chain-saw wielding creature that he is. Sure, we've more or less seen his back story in one of the previous installments. Clearly, we need more details!

At this point, the studio is planning to have Jason's next movie in theaters, appropriately, on Friday the 13th. With the glut of horror films on the schedule, what's one more, really? (Kim Hollis/BOP)
