Disney nabs Johnny Depp for three big roles
Johnny Depp signed on to reprise his Jack Sparrow role in another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel for Disney. Also for the studio, Depp agreed to play Tonto in a big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger and the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's take on Alice in Wonderland.

Disney assigns scribes to its Lone Ranger adaptation
Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, the writing duo best known for working on the Pirates of the Caribbean films, is in negotiations with Disney to pen a live-action adaptation of The Lone Ranger, a program that began on radio in the 30s and eventually spread to movie serials, TV shows, comic strips, novels and more. The Lone Ranger tells the story of a masked man formally of a group of Texas Rangers who is nursed back to health by an Indian named Tonto following an ambush by a gang of outlaws. The pair then set off to bring the gang and others like it to justice.
