Magnolia assigns October release
Barry Levinson's comedy, What Just Happened, will bow in theaters October 3rd. At the moment, the Robert De Niro-starrer will go up against Nights in Rodanthe, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Bill Maher's Religulous.

Magnolia may make it Happen
Magnolia Pictures is in negotiations to distribute What Just Happened?, an ensemble Barry Levinson comedy that closed Cannes. The film paints a portrait of a movie producer (Robert De Niro). Other cast members include Bruce Willis, Robin Wright Penn, Stanley Tucci and Sean Penn. Budgeted anywhere from $23 million to $30 million, the film would be Magnolia's most expensive pickup to date.

Keener and Wright Penn Happen
Catherine Keener and Robin Wright Penn have agreed to star in What Just Happened? for director Barry Levinson. The comedy is from an original script by Art Linson about a movie producer (Robert De Niro) desperately trying to survive in the cut-throat world of Hollywood and his second broken marriage. Keener will play the head of a movie studio and Wright Penn will play the producer's ex-wife. The supporting cast also includes Stanley Tucci, John Turturro and Kristen Stewart, as well as Bruce Willis and Sean Penn in cameos as themselves. Principal photography will begin this week in L.A.

De Niro wonders What Happened?
Robert De Niro will star in What Just Happened?, a movie based on Art Linson's memoir about his experiences as a movie producer. Barry Levinson will direct from Linson's screenplay. De Niro will play a movie producer who is going through two weeks of hell as he tries to get a movie completed. Sean Penn is expected to play himself in the film. Linson has produced such films as The Untouchables, Heat and This Boy's Life.
