ESPN goes to bat with Redford
Robert Redford's as-yet-untitled biopic on famed baseball player Jackie Robinson will be co-produced by ESPN, a deal that also brings the network's exclusive sports expertise to the project. The story is about the Brooklyn Dodgers star's historical breakage of baseball's color barrier. Redford (Lions for Lambs), who has been working on the project for several years, will star as the team's general manager, Branch Rickey. The film was written by Kirk Ellis (HBO's John Adams) and will be directed by Thomas Carter (Coach Carter).
