Update begins to form with signed writers
Sony tapped Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to write the script to the studio's new take on the outer space tale. The news comes just months after Sony won the rights to the title from Hearst.

What Do You Mean, Flash Gordon Approaching?
Stephen Sommers, who was the creator of the updated Mummy franchise and Van Helsing, has obtained the rights to Flash Gordon along with his producing partner Bob Ducsay. The comic book superhero's story will be adapted into a feature film. At this particular time, Sommers is producing the film and considering handling the screenplay. Thus far, he has directed every film he has ever scripted.
Flash Gordon has a long and storied history going all the way back to its creation in 1934 by Alex Raymond. From that time forward, the character appeared in movie serials, animated shows and a television series.
