Connery withdraws from Canon
Sean Connery has abruptly withdrawn from the starring role in 20th Century Fox's Josiah's Canon, a project for which he was set to be paid $17.5 million. The studio and director Brett Ratner are already looking for a replacement for the 74-year-old actor as rumors have begun to swirl that Connery may be retiring from acting altogether. Shooting was to have begun in February.
Connery's spokesman has said the official reason that the actor left the project is that he wishes to give his undivided attention to the writing of his memoirs. He also apparently had such an unpleasant experience while filming The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen that he's in no hurry to film for the big screen at any point in the near future.
